The small village of Eyrs lies at the feet of the Vinschgau’s Sonnenberg mountain, at the Tanas mountain torrent run-out.
In 1838, Eyrs was the Vinchgau’s most important communications junction and coaching station. Throughout the stagecoach era it underwent a relevant economic boom.
One of its peculiarities are the Eyrs mountain torrent loop bank sites, classified protected biotope areas in the middle of the Vinschgau valley, harbouring a multitude of rare animals and plants.
